"A new life awaits you in the Off-world colonies! A chance to begin again in a golden land of opportunity and adventure!"

Greetings.

You know when you think you have a really novel opinion on some sort of trivial pop-culture phenomenon but don't really feel the need to throw it in everyone's face? Or when you have a thought that you'd like to express or get out of your skull just to see how it sounds, but maybe you're afraid of getting ridiculed or yelled at?

Well, that's the purpose of this blog. A lot of people (okay like 2 people) have told me that I should write more and since the omnipresent nature of Facebook fucking sucks and I'm definitely not cool or interesting enough for Twitter and Livejournal has unfortunately become a ghost town, I'll just get out all my bullshit on here and people that stumble across it can hopefully be amused, entertained, bummed out or maybe all three. That was this blogs first of surely many run-on sentences, by the way. I may have a degree in journalism but that doesn't mean I don't like to get real wild with sentence structures sometimes.

Enough preamble then, my name is Eric and I'm 27 at this moment and I live in Seattle, Washington.

Most of this blog will concern movies, music, comics and maybe an occasional post about baseball. So here's a sampling of my awful taste in these things.

Top 5 movies: Blade Runner (duh), Aliens, The Thing, Big Trouble In Little China, Terminator 2

Top 5 bands I've been listening to recently: Portishead, Tristeza, The Appleseed Cast, Jimmy Eat World, Damnation AD

I play bass in this band:  http://envisionannodomini.blogspot.com

Comics I read regularly: Scalped, Sweet Tooth, Punisher: Max, The Walking Dead, RASL, etc. My 3 favorite comics ever are Y: The Last Man, Preacher and Garth Ennis' original run on Punisher: Max.

My sports loyalties are strange. I'm a die hard Seattle Mariners fan and I am fairly certain I will die of old age before they win a World Series. They are truly awful, but they are the team I pay the most rapt attention to and baseball will always be my favorite sport. The more I learn about stat analysis, the more I find to love about it. It's January right now and baseball symbolizes hope for warmer days and future accomplishments.

In football my heart belongs to the gloriously un-PC Washington Redskins because my parents are originally from Maryland and moved to Seattle in the 70s, so I was brought up to bleed burgundy and gold for better or worse. Mostly worse since the 'skins haven't won a Super Bowl since 1991 (I was totally alive and sort of remember!) and haven't come within farting distance of one. They fucking suck and have for years.

In hockey, a sport which I sought out myself in the mid-90s since no one in Washington state cares much about hockey, I arbitrarily picked the Detroit Red Wings as my team in 1995 and never looked back. The Red Wings of the 90s had exciting players, classic jerseys and they won a shitload of games. So that was cool for me, a fan of teams that never win jackshit. Nowadays, I still follow the Wings, but I also support the Vancouver Canucks as they are the closest NHL team to me and I absolutely love the Seattle Thunderbirds, our WHL junior league team. I was obsessed with hockey for much of my youth and used to play goalie for teams at the only rink nearby where I grew up, the Puget Sound Hockey Center in one of the smellier areas of Tacoma, WA. I've sort of come back to following hockey more closely after checking out for a while and it's good to be back.

Watching soccer is like trying to understand a French film without subtitles. I can nod along and pretend I'm getting it and enjoying it, but really I'd rather be watching Bad Boys II or something. But yeah, the Seattle Sounders are fun to watch, I guess.

In closing, I also enjoy coffee, pizza, the show Friday Night Lights, sleeping and environmental sustainability projects. I'm as boring, white and Seattle-y as they come, really. And I'm okay with that.
